Out of all the diseases that plague our land, out of all the epidemics that hit us, there is one epidemic that comes unfailingly twice each year, and leaves the land ravaged, with just enough time to recover before it comes again. That disease is cholera. For generations, the people of Bangladesh have been fighting cholera twice a year, before and after monsoon. Cholera is a bacterial disease that affects the small intestine. Caused by the Vibrio Cholarae bacteria, cholera induces severe watery diarrhea and vomiting. The dehydration and rapid electrolyte loss in cholera can even cause death. It is transmitted mainly through contaminated water, and in some cases through infected food.
