This symposium, spearheaded by ALLIES senior Leah Averitt, served as an academic discourse into determining how certain aspects of the Sino-US relationship will evolve in the years to come and what implications these will have in the future. This one-day symposium was comprised of panel discussions, small discussion groups, and a keynote address. Material covered included Chinese-US relations with respect to aerospace, cyberspace, energy needs, economics, and China’s relationship with Taiwan.
ALLIES members designed this symposium because they believe that the relationship between the United States and China encompasses a very delicate blend of civilian and military responsibility. Interagency cooperation and understanding between the military and various departments and agencies both within the U.S. government and with other nations will be imperative for ensuring global security. After graduation in May 2008, Leah secured a full-time position in the U.S. Naval War College, where she will work on U.S. foreign policy vis-à-vis China.
