Scavenger Hunt

General Rules:
1. You can purchase maps if you choose to
2. The students that can speak the local dialect are not allowed to speak in Cantonese to assist the group in accomplishing its goal.
3. You will all be given HK$200. You should stay within the budget and get receipts if possible. How frugal you are will be taken into consideration.
4. You will also be given a disposable camera to document your adventure. Take pictures to show us that you were actually there. Try to have the photos developed before we all meet.
5. You should record the time you finish your tasks. After you finish, then you have free time until we all meet at 6:00pm at Poppy's Restaurant, 1A Tsing Fung Street, North Point.
6. You should take at least two modes of transportation (walking does not count). You can use the octopus card for the fares. The fares will not be deducted from the $200, but record the cost.
7. The tasks do not have to be done in sequence. The Hong Kong students should be the official secretary to document the hunt. Take detailed notes. Those will be evaluated too.
8. In addition to what your official instructions are, what else is interesting in these locations?
9. Have fun exploring Hong Kong.

Group One: Lana, Uyen , Carolyn, Jacky, and Derek

1. Go to Mong Kok, Kowloon. There is a wholesale florist called Pu Kee, located on a small street off of Flower Market Street. Buy 20 long stem roses. It should cost less than $30.00. The flowers should still be fresh by the time we meet at the restaurant. If there are no roses available, you can get another type of flower for comparable value.

2. Go to Fa Yuen Street and get one dragon fruit (Cantonese pronunciation is For Lung Gor). If you cannot find it, you can open hint number 1 to help you. Let us know if you use the hint to do this.
3. Go to the street where there are many aquarium stores (Tung Choi Street). Take pictures of at least one aquarium that sells sea anemones.
4. What else is of interest in this area?
5. Can you take the KRC train in this area? Where would you board it?

Group Two: Helen, Andy, Rui, Myra, and Rana

1. Go to the western district to buy half of a catty of red dates with pits. See if you can find out where the dates are grown.
2. There are pedestrian schemes in Hong Kong where the roads are blocked off and cars are not allowed. Go to Causeway Bay and find out how many pedestrian schemes are being implemented and what their hours are (pictures please).
3. In one of the pedestrian schemes is a general store called Pricerite. Find out how many entrances this store has and buy a spray bottle for $10.00.

4. Go to Taikoo Place. There is a cake shop on Hoi Kwong Street called Teresa's. Bring back one slice of dessert that will keep fresh until we meet at 6:00pm.
5. How many restaurants are there on Tong Chong Street? Take pictures of at least three. What kind of food do they serve?

Group Three: Patrick, Monic, Sara, Lindsay, and Valerie

1. Go to Wong Tai Sin Temple. In Wong Tain Sin, local Chinese go there to pray and to ask for guidance.

2. See if you can find out how they get guidance from the god. If you do not have a clue, then you can open hint number 1.
3. Once they get guidance, how do they get it interpreted. If you do not have a clue, then open hint number 2.
4. One of you should do what the locals do; ask for guidance and get an interpretation.
5. When you ask for guidance, you have to ask for a specific thing, for example: career, school, health.
6. Try to shop for an English interpretation for under $30.00.
7. Go to the OLD airport (Kai Tak airport). Find out what has become of it. Is there a bowling alley there? Find out the details.

Group Four: Ivy, Liz, Elaine, Veronica, and Chris

1. Go to Apliu Street in Sham Shiu Po and get plug adapters so that two prong plugs can be plugged into the three prong outlets. Find out how many types of adaptors there are. For example, are Australian and New Zealand electrical outlets the same as Hong Kong's? For travelers to other countries, how many types of adapters should they get? Buy one for each country (they should be less than 10.00 each); try bargaining.

2. Go to the Golden Shopping Arcade (between Fok Wa Street and Kweilin Street) and see where they sell pirated CDs (but do not buy them). Do not take pictures of the stores. You can take pictures outside of the shopping center, not inside.
3. Go to Cheung Sha Wan Road, where they have clothing resale stores. See if you can buy something for at least one of the girls in your group for 20.00 (she has to be willing to wear it and model it at the presentation).
4. See if you can find a store on the street that sells kitchen utensils. Take a picture of the store. Find something in the store that is interesting and unique that you want to share with your fellow TILIPers for under 30.00

Group Five: Cristina, May, Craig, Sarah, and Cora

1. Go to Lai Chi Kok and find the Hong Kong Industrial Center (between Castle Peak Road and Tung Chau West Street). What kind of businesses do they have there?

2. Check and find out what kind of manufacturing they do.
3. Can you buy something that is useful for under 30.00?
4. Go to Tsim Sha Tsui (Granville Road). The group should pick out and buy a name brand t-shirt for the guy in your group for under 40.00.
5. Find a Muslim mosque (hint: near the MTR station and on Nathan Road).
6. Is there a park in this area? What is it called? (Pictures please)
