The Pulitzer Prize winner foreign correspondent of the Miami Herald, for 1988-89 he won both the Investigative Reporters and Editors Award for Investigative Reporting and the Society for Professional Journalists Award for Foreign Correspondents, for a series exposing the Medellin cocaine cartel. He is the co-author (with Jeffrey Leen) of the forthcoming book, The Kings of Cocaine.
